We provide a very affordable gravel service in Banbury, Oxfordshire. With options on laying new gravel driveways, replacing old driveways and building new permeable driveways to comply with SUDS regulations using gravel and shingle.
HOW WE LAY A NEW GRAVEL DRIVEWAY
We would firstly replace the old driveway and excavate the area. With gravel being a permeable option, you need to make sure the water can drain succesfully away down through the base as you cannot direct the surface water. This means ensuring a solid base of Type 4 MOT and Type 1 finish on top of it. Ideally, you would want at least 10 inches of sub base to provide adequate drainage.
Once the base is prepared, we will put in any edging, patterns, borders or aprons at this stage. This will be benched in concrete as its main primary function is to help contain the gravel to stop it spreading out.
We would then put down a heavy membrane sheeting which will allow water to drain through and keep the base separate from the gravel finish.
The final stage we would put down the gravel driveway raking it out to make sure its spread and leveled evenly across the driveway. Normally 1 to 2 inches is adequate but can vary depending on the size of the gravel. We would recommend 20mm gravel for a driveway as its easy for cars to move through it without becoming difficult to walk on by foot.
